Short History of Istanbul

I think, learning about history of the city you live in or not should be necessary. Suppose, one of your friend come to Istanbul, for holiday and wants you to travel Istanbul. If you don’t have enough information about the city you live in, you will get embrassed. That’s why, i decided to write short history of Istanbul..Firstly, I read lots of historical story and summarized  useful, pratic information.. Let’s read, dear reader J

In 5000 B.C. There started habitations in Kadıköy Fikirtepe, Çatalca, Dudullu, Ümraniye, Pendik, Davutpaşa, Kilyos and Ambarlı. But the beginnings of Istanbul as we know has started 7th century B.C. In 4 th century A.D the city was rebuilt as a capital by Constantis and from that date on it continued being used as a capital by Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Emripes.While the city was a very important centers of Christianity with empror Constantis, after being conquired by Ottoman empire had become one of the most important cities of Muslim world. Today it is one of the most populated and biggest cities in the world with its 15 million inhabitants.

Timeline of Constantinople and Istanbul;

• Founded in the year 324 by emperor Constantine      
• The city burned in the year 532.
• It was first attacked by Vikings in 860
• In 980 emperor Basil II founded the Varangian Guard as a single unit of his army.
•  Conquered for the first time by crusaders from 1204-1261. The city never fully recovered from this.
• The Sultan Mehmet II, ruler of the Ottoman empire, conquered the city in 1453.
• The city was the capital until 1923.

The city's name was changed to Istanbul in 1930.
